Four arrested with illegal firearms in Nyanga and Khayelitsha

The Western Cape Provincial Reaction Team arrested four suspects with three unlicensed firearms in Nyanga and Khayelitsha on Tuesday night.

“The search and seizure operation took members of SAPS to Bathwali Street in Unathi, Nyanga,” said police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut.

“There, a suspect was arrested with a 9mm pistol without a serial number and five rounds of ammunition.”

From there, they also proceeded to Ngabangaba Street where two suspects, a male and a female, were arrested. They had in their possession an AK47 assault rifle and 30 rounds of ammunition.

“In Site B, a suspect was arrested with another unlicensed firearm,” he added.

“Once charged, the four suspects are due to make court appearances in Athlone and Khayelitsha respectively.”
