Authorities are investigating the cause of the Garden Route helicopter crash that claimed the life of a pilot on Tuesday.
The investigation is being led by the Civil Aviation Authority of South Africa.
According to Western Cape MEC for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Anton Bredell, the Working on Fire helicopter crashed during firefighting operations.
This is after a fire broke out in an area called Vermaaklikheid, which falls in the Hessequa municipal boundary.
Bredell said that Western Cape Provincial Fire services deployed resources from the Overberg region to the area.
Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town fire and rescue services were on standby to provide additional backup if required.
