Nyanga

Police said that crimes threatening the safety of communities will remain a priority for the Western Cape. This is after Nyanga detectives on Friday night arrested three suspects on murder charges.

“Two of the suspects, aged 21 and 24, were sought for killing a 24-year-old woman, who was shot and killed in her residence during January this year in Lusaka,” described police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut.

“The third suspect arrested by Nyanga detectives on Friday is a 24-year-old man wanted for two murder cases which he allegedly committed in November last year and January this year and an attempted murder and arson case, which also occurred in January.

“He is also linked to a recent murder case which occurred on Wednesday night where a 34-year-old man was shot several times in Lusaka.”

He said that the deceased is the boyfriend of the woman, who was killed in January allegedly by the two suspects, aged 21 and 26.

More suspects arrested for murders in Nyanga and Samora Machel

In an unrelated incident, a 39-year-old man was arrested on the same night for a case of hijacking, which occurred in October 2017.

“The victim was standing at an intersection when he was approached by three suspects, who asked for a lift before they hijacked him. His two accomplices are still being sought,” said Lt Col Traut.

“In Samora Machel, detectives arrested a 26-year-old suspect believed to be the hitman in a double murder, which was perpetrated in December last year where two male victims were shot and killed in their residence by two suspects.”

He said that the first suspect was arrested shortly after the crime, but the second suspect managed to evade arrest until Saturday.

“The suspects are all due to make court appearances on Monday to face the respective charges against them.”

Western Cape SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General KE Jula, expressed his gratitude towards the selfless efforts by investigators to ensure that justice can prevail in the Province.
