Body of unidentified woman washes up at Mossel Bay beach

Police have opened an inquest docket for investigation after the body of an unidentified woman washed up at a Mossel Bay beach.

“At 15h50, Monday, National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Station 15 Mossel Bay duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following eye-witness reports of a body suspected to be floating in the water off-shore of Mossel Bay Point,” said spokesperson, Craig Lambinon.

“The SA Police Services, the Police Dive Unit and Police Sea Borderline Control were activated and the NSRI sea rescue craft St Blaze Rescuer was launched.”

He said that the NSRI rescue crew were dispatched by land and confirmed a body was floating close in-shore.

“On arrival on the scene NSRI crew aboard St Blaze Rescuer located and recovered a body of an unidentified female suspected to be a teenager,” Lambinon said.

“The body was brought to shore and the body has been taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services and Police.

“Police have opened an inquest docket.”
