Cllr Peter Louw, Ward Councillor of Ward 5, and part of his Ward, Park Road, Protea Park walked away with the trophy as the winner of the George Municipality Cleanest Main Street Competition, which was held in those areas most affected by illegal dumping.
Grace Notshokovu and her team from Environmental Services started the competition on 5 June, World Environmental Day. Consequently, each area that poses an ongoing litter problem, the main streets were evaluated on their cleanliness.
The main focus was on street litter, illegal dumpsites and beautification.
Notshokovu said the purpose of the competition is to encourage communities to take it upon themselves to keep their areas clean and healthy at all times and not rely solely on Municipal services.
